As part of Virgin Trains Project 21, Yellow Rail were awarded the contract to complete the MKIV Interior Refresh scope of works at Bounds Green depot.
Working from a specially erected platform, to allow the work to be completed in the home depot, Yellow Rail deployed a team of 45 experienced artisans.
Each 9 car-set refurbishment was completed over a 10-working day period. Shift patterns included dayshift, nightshift and weekend working as dictated by the weekly / daily planning process to accommodate depot constraints, unit availability and modifications required by set.
Work scope summary – Interior Refurbishment:
- Complete strip-out of saloon and vestibule area
- Complete strip-out of toilets
- Strip down and repair of seats
- Re-fit of new seat cushions
- Removal of current flooring in saloon / vestibule and toilet
- Repair and preparation of flooring in saloon / vestibule and toilet
- Installation of MET 25 Lino in toilet area
- Installation of carpets in saloon and vestibule area
- Powder Coating and Wet Paint
- Re-fitment of refinished items
- Fitment of new bodyside panels
- Fitment of new power sockets
- Replacement of ceiling lights (Standard)
- Fitment of new mood lighting (First Class)
- Door Sounder Install
- UAT Toilet Modifications
- Disabled Ramp Door Removal and Re-fit
- Full toilet re-fit including toilet and vanity until
- Deep Clean

In addition to undertaking the MKIV interior refresh scope of works, the contract was extended to include a package of electrical and mechanical technical modifications across the fleet.
